All three mortgage rates ticked up week to week. The 30-year fixed rate is still not at the March 13th high, but we are officially back in the 7% range, which we haven’t seen since the end of May.

These rises could be due to the credit downgrade the US received two weeks ago and the Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, which came out last week. The CPI shows that in July, the cost of all items went up .2% on average, which makes the 12-month rate 3.3%. We’ll closely monitor what rates do in the coming weeks, especially when the Federal Reserve meets again in September, addressing the US credit rating and the CPI report.
